Readings
Edward Chancellor, The Price of Time: The Real Story of Interest (2022): Somewhat unsatisfying book, John Law came up again.
Jack Kerouac, The Dharma Bums (1958): Hippies, mountains, road trips, black coffee and pancakes, Buddhism, Catholicism.
Roger E. Backhouse, The Penguin History of Economics (2023): The history of economic thinking from the pre-socratic philosophers to the present day. A necessary refresher before tackling more specialized works.
Henry James, The American (1887): Mr. Christopher Newman, an American businessman having made a small fortune, moves to Paris and resolves to find a wife. The novel's resolution pits Newman's good nature against his highest interest in a sea of aristocratic convention. High recommend to Americans in Europe.
